Officers  job vacancies in Territorial Army

Applications are invited from gainfully employed young citizens for an opportunity of donning the uniform and serving the nation as Territorial Army Officers (Non Departmental),based on the concept of enabling motivated young citizens to serve in a military environment without having to sacrifice their primary professions. You can serve the nation in two capacities – as a civilian and as a soldier.

Qualifications :  Graduate from any recognized university.

Age Limits :  18 to 42 years on the date of application.

Pay Scales (VIIth CPC):

Level 10 - Rs. 56,100 - 1,77,500

Level 10A - Rs. 6,13,00-1,93,900

Level 11 - Rs. 6,94,00 - 2,07,200

Level 12A - Rs. 1,21,200 - 2,12400

Level 13 - Rs. 1,30,600- 2,15,900

Level 13A - Rs. 1,39,600-2,17,600

Physical Standards : A candidate must be physically and medically fit in all respects.

Application Fee  :  Candidates’ are required to pay a fee of Rs.200/- (Rupees two hundred only). Candidates should note that payment of examination fee can be made only through the modes prescribed at website. Payment of fee through any other mode is neither valid nor acceptable. Applications submitted without the prescribed fee/mode shall be summarily rejected. Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances nor can the fee be held in reserve for any other examination or selection.

Selection Procedure:  

(a) Candidates whose application forms are found correct will be called for screening (written exam followed by interview only if passed in written exam) by a Preliminary Interview Board (PIB) by the respective Territorial Army Group Headquarters.

(b) Successful candidates will further undergo tests at a Service Selection Board (SSB) and Medical Board for final selection.

(c) Vacancies of male and female candidates will be determined as per organisational requirement. Date of written examination : 28 July 2019

Centres of Examination : The Examination will be held at the following Centres:  Jaipur/ Pune / Bengaluru /Hyderabad/ Nagpur/ Kolkata/ Siliguri/ Guwahati/ Dimapur/ Chandigarh/ Jalandhar/ Shimla/ Hisar/ Lucknow/ Patna/ Udhampur/ Srinagar.

About Territorial Army

The English raised the Territorial Army in 1920 through Indian Territorial Act of 1920 and it was comprised of two wings namely The Auxiliary Force for Europeans & Anglo-Indians, and The Indian Territorial Force for Indian Volunteers. After Independence the Territorial Army Act was passed in 1948 and the first Indian Governor General Shri C Rajagopalachari formally inaugurated the Territorial Army. It is celebrated with the TA Day Parade every year.

The Territorial Army initially had various types of units such as Armed Regt (TA), Infantry Battalion (TA), Air Defence (TA), Med Regt (TA), Engineers Field Park Coy (TA), Signal Regiment (TA), EME Workshop (TA), Coast Battery (TA), ASC GT Coy (TA), ASC Compo Platoon (TA), AMC Field Ambulance (TA), by 1972 these units have either been disbanded or converted to Regular Army except Inf Bn (TA).

The Territorial Army is a part of Regular Army and its present role is to relieve the Regular Army from static duties and assist civil administration in dealing with natural calamities and maintenance of essential services in situations where life of the communities is affected or the security of the Country is threatened and to provide units for Regular Army as and when required.

Presently the Territorial Army has a strength approx. 40000 persons comprising of Departmental TA units such as Railway, IOC, ONGC, and Non Departmental TA units of Infantry Battalion (TA) including Home & Hearth Battalions, Ecological Battalion (TA) affiliated to various Infantry Regiments and Engineer Regiment (TA) for maintenance of Line of Control Fencing.

The TA units were actively involved in 1962, 1965 and 1971 operations. The Terriers have also taken part in OP PAWAN in Srilanka, OP RAKSHAK in Punjab and J&K, OP RHINO and OP BAJRANG in the North East in a most active manner. Departmental units came to the aid of the civil authorities during Industrial unrest and natural calamities, most famous being the earthquake in Latoor (Maharashtra), Uttarkashi in Garhwal Himalaya and the Supper Cyclone in Odisha. The Ecological units have arrested man made environmental degradation by planting approx six crore and 65 lakh trees over 66,000 Hectares of land in Mussoori Hills & Pithoragarh (UK), Shimla (HP), Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) Bhatti Mines (Delhi), Charduar, Kokrajhar (Assam) and Samba (J&K).

Men of the TA have taken part in various adventure activities, famous one being scaling of Mt Tengchen Khang (6010 mtr) in West Sikkim by Jt-Indo-British TA Mountaineering Expedition in May 1998.

The officers and men of the Territorial Army have been decorated for their gallantry and distinguished services. So far they have earned 05 Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, 05 Vir Chakra, 04 Shourya Chakra, 01 Yudh Seva Medal, 72 Sena Medal, 26 Vishist Seva Medal, 16 Mention-in-Dispatches and 252 Chief of Army Staff Commendation Cards.

Many Industrialists, politicians and eminent personalities have been members of the TA. The force also has had the honour of appointing 11 officers over the years as Hony ADC to the President of India.
