The Anganwadi Seva Yojana (ICDS Scheme), sponsored by the Government of India, is a unique primary social welfare scheme in India to tackle malnutrition and health problems among children under 6 years of age, pregnant and lactating mothers. Since its inception in 1975, the Anganwadi Services Scheme (ICDS Scheme) has expanded significantly in its scope. Since 1988, a separate department has been functioning as Child Development Services and Nutrition Department for the operation of Anganwadi Services Scheme (ICDS Scheme) for the all-round development and welfare of children in the state. The scheme has been universalized in the year 2008-09 and the scheme is operated through 897 child development projects and 189789 Anganwadi centers in all 75 districts of the state.
