As per latest media reports, University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to revise the syllabus for National Eligibility Test (NET) for the first time in last ten years. For the same, UGC has set up 25 committees to revise the syllabus for different subjects. However, since UGC NET is conducted for 90 subjects, more committees are likely to be set up to cover all subjects.As per latest media reports, University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to revise the syllabus for National Eligibility Test (NET) for the first time in last ten years. UGC NET Exam 2018 Eligibility
- A candidate should have a Master’s Degree from a recognized University or Institution of India.
- He/ she should have a minimum aggregate of 55% marks. However, a candidate belonging to the Reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/PWD) should have a minimum score of 50% marks.
- Relaxation of 5% marks is given to the candidates who have qualified their Masters by 19th September 1991.
- Candidates who are appearing in their final year exams are also eligible to apply.
Age Limit
For JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) –
- Age Limit – The candidate should not be more than 30 years of age.
For Assistant Professor –
- No upper age limit to apply for the post of Assistant professor.
Relaxation in the Upper Age Limit –
- Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD) will be given relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit.
- The candidates with LL.M degree will be given 3 years age relaxation in the JRF Exam.
- Candidates who have research experience will also be given proper relaxation in the age limit.
Exemption from Requirement of UGC NET Exam –
Certain categories of candidates are exempted from the requirement of the CBSE NET Exam qualification to apply for the Assistant Professor post. Check below-
- SET Exam qualified before 1st June 2002 – Those candidates, who have qualified the SET (State Eligibility Test) before 1st June 2002 are not required to qualify the NET Exam additionally. They can apply directly for the post of Assistant Professor in any University and Colleges of India.
- SET Exam qualified candidates after 1st June 2002 – Those candidates who have qualified the SET (State Eligibility Test), but on a later date after 1st June 2002 are also exempted from the NET Exam. However, they cannot apply in Universities and Colleges across all over India. They can apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the State from which they have qualified their SET Exam.
- Candidates with PhD Degree – Those candidates who have PhD degree, as per the University Grant Commission are also exempted from the requirement of NET/ SET/SELT. They can apply directly in any University and Colleges of India for the post of Assistant Professor.
- UGC-JRF Qualified – Those candidates who have already qualified the UGC –Junior Research Fellowship Exam are also exempted from the requirement of NET. The can also apply in University and Colleges of their choice across all over India for the Assistant Professor post.
- CSIR-JRF Qualified –Those candidates who have qualified the Junior Research Fellowship program of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research are also exempted from NET. They can apply for the post of Assistant Professor in any University or College across all over India.
UGC NET Exam 2018 Application Process
- Candidates can apply for the UGC NET 2018 Exam online.
- They can visit the official website of the UGC and CBSE NET to fill the application form.
- Candidates should fill the application form, upload the scanned copies of all necessary documents, like photograph and signature and finally pay the requisite application fee.
- After making payment of the application fee, the candidates should download the fee confirmation page for future references. The confirmation receipt should not be sent to the examination conducting authority CBSE. Instead, it should be kept by the candidate.
