What is Diploma in Engineering?
In India, the Engineering Diploma or Polytechnic Diploma is a professional Engineering Diploma awarded after completion of 3 years program (Six Semesters of classroom study which include practical, projects & Seminars). This course is usually offered by an institute of science and technology or recognized polytechnic or any Govt.,Private & deemed University (University of High performance U/S 3 of the UGC Act).
A diploma course in engineering involves classes on fundamental engineering concepts. It is a professional course, planned in such a way that students may still take up jobs in the field of engineering once they earn their diplomas. Some students are not able to get admission for Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) programmes, which is why they enroll themselves in a Diploma of Engineering course, because it can allow them to transfer into the second year of the B.Tech. or B.E. course. This approach is also referred to as the ‘backdoor to engineering degree’ approach. This, in effect, means the student may not have to take the eleventh and twelfth class exams. So, instead of the last two years of school and four years of the degree engineering course (a total of six years), the same qualification is achieved in the same amount of time with three years of a diploma course and three years of the degree course after the direct transfer. Engineering entrance exams like JEE Main (previously AIEEE), JEE Advanced (previously IIT-JEE), and individual state and college Common Entrance Tests can be bypassed and avoided.
Diploma programme pattern:-
Diploma courses can be of a yearly or semester pattern. Most yearly pattern courses have a duration of three years. The diploma programmes that follow a semester pattern have a planned duration of four years, with three years of study and one year for an industrial internship. Engineering diploma courses can be divided into two types depending upon the basic entrance qualification required. In the post-Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) diploma course, students with a basic SSC qualification can be accepted into the course. In the post-Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) diploma course, the minimum qualification for entrance is an HSC pass certificate. A postgraduate diploma can be opted for after attaining the diploma degree, if not a B.E., B.Tech. or a job.

Eligibility :-
The minimum qualification required for admission into a diploma course is passing of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC)/tenth standard/equivalent examination, with at least 35 percent in science and maths subjects.The state boards of technical education of most of the states in India conduct entrance tests for admission to the diploma programmes offered by various polytechnics in the state.
A student who has attained the diploma is usually eligible to enter B.Tech./B.E. programmes in the second year under a lateral entry scheme. This fast-track admission is possible only after writing the LET, the Lateral Entry Test. If you do well on this test, you can apply to B.Tech./B.E. programmes.
The Diploma Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (DIPIETE) is a diploma-level examination offered by the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) and is conducted twice a year (June and December) in various centers around India. Students should have passed their SSLC/tenth standard/equivalent examination with science subjects.

Admission Procedure :
It is for information that admission in three year diploma courses in Polytechnics are totally on merit basis of qualifying exams (i.e.10th class).
Eligibility and Basis of Admission in Diploma Courses:
1) Diploma Engg.* (including HGST, KM and TFW Categories)
Eligibility : 10th with 35% marks (33% in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes category or Kashmiri Migrants Category). Compulsory pass in Maths & Science subjects.
Basis of Admission : Inter-se- merit of Secondary School Examination (Matriculation) or equivalent qualifying examination.
2) Diploma (Engg.) Lateral Entry (including TFW Category)
Eligibility : 10+2/ ITI (02 years)
Basis of Admission : Rank of Lateral Entry Diploma Entrance Test (DET-L) to be conducted by HSTES in May, 2019.
3) Diploma Pharmacy (including MAR Category)
Eligibility : 10+2 (PCM/ PCB) with 35 % marks.
Basis of Admission : Inter-se- merit of Qualifying Examination.
*Admissions in Diploma (Engg.) Course were made on the basis of Rank of Diploma Entrance Test (DET). From the session 2019-20 onwards, admissions in Diploma (Engg.) Course shall be made on the basis of Merit of Qualifying Examination.

2. Application Form : Applications for admissions in all the courses shall be invited online at www.onlinetesthry.gov.in.
Diploma (Engg.) Lateral entry TFW(Tuition Fees Waiver) scheme.
Admissions in TFW Category shall be made on the basis of Rank of DET (L), so candidates applying for this category must apply/ appear in DET (L). Further, the candidates must deposit the Printout of Online Filled Application Form for TFW Category along with relevant documents/ proof of deposit of the Entrance Test Fee.
The candidate must upload the following documents along with the online application form :

- Specimen Signature of the candidate.
