About the Organisation
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the prestigious Engineering Services Examination (ESE) every year to recruit engineers for key technical positions in various departments of the Government of India, including railways, defence, public works, and power sectors.
About the Role
The UPSC ESE 2025 offers permanent Group A Gazetted Officer posts for engineering graduates in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics disciplines. Candidates selected through ESE are posted in ministries, departments, and public sector organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute technical projects in respective departments.
- Oversee maintenance, operations, and policy implementation in engineering domains.
- Plan infrastructure and public works projects.
- Ensure adherence to government engineering standards and safety norms.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: Degree in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics & Telecommunication) from a recognized university or institution.
Age Limit: 21–30 years as on 1 January 2025 (age relaxation as per government rules).
Nationality: Indian citizen.
Pay and Benefits
- Basic Pay: ₹56,100 plus DA, HRA, TA, and other allowances.

Selection Process
The selection process consists of three stages:
- Preliminary Examination (Objective)
- Main Examination (Conventional)
- Personality Test / Interview
