About Indira Gandhi Agricultural University

Prof. S.K. Patil had a long distinguished professional career as Scientist, Senior Scientist, Principal Scientist, Chief Scientist, Dean and Director of Research Service at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur. He was born on 9th November, 1963 and had his School level education in Chhattisgarh. He did his graduation, post graduation and doctoral degree in Soil Science from JNKVV, Jabalpur and had been University Merit Scholar.

During his tenure as Director of Research, Prof. Patil had contributed evolving and release of 13 crop varieties for the State, developed frontier rice molecular lab of worth Rs 875.0 lac through RKVY for stress tolerance characterization of 23000 rice germplasm accessions, modernized the university farms with roads, boundary wall, electrification, irrigation network, modern equipment's & implements and infrastructure, brought five new upland scattered farm units of 200 ha under cultivation at Bhatapara for the first time. Developed linkages with 3 International and several National Organizations. He has been in the Board of Academic, Administrative, Research and Extension councils of the university, member of board of several state agencies and served many important committees of the university.

During his tenure as Dean of College at Jagdalpur he contributed three NAIP Mega Projects of around Rs. 15 crores for improving livelihood security of Bastar tribes by adoption of integrated farming system models and enhanced productivity by 100-300%, irrigated area by 15-20% and family income by 50% in 19 villages of three tribal districts covering 3000 farm families under NAIP.

As Scientist, he developed India‟s least expensive unique Soil Testing Kit costing Rs 650 for N, P, K, OC and lime requirement. More than 5000 kits and 3000 refills sold in Chhattisgarh, AP, Maharastra, UP, MP and Orissa. Handled six International, twelve National funded AICRP and ad-hoc projects, associated in development & release of 3 crop varieties and Guided 18 Ph.D. and 51 M.Sc. thesis researches, participated in 7 International and 31 National conferences/workshops & organized 10 workshops. He had been Visiting Scientist over one year at IFDC, USA and IRRI Philippines. He credited with about 143 research publications of which 61 research papers, 39 scientific reports, 18 extension articles, 13 manuals / books, 16 research notes/ abstracts, 17 popular articles, 16 edited books/ reports/ journals/ newsletters etc. He was awarded for „Out standing contribution‟ by the university in 2001 and “Kisan Samman Patra” of Chhattisgarh- 2007.
