IBPS 2017 PO Exam Information

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) acquired independent status in 1984. The credit to the initiative goes to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Nationalized Banks. IBPS has a mandate from 20 Public Sector Banks to conduct the eligibility exam for selection to these banks. The exam is termed as the Common Written Examination.

IBPS 2017 PO Exam Eligibility

The individual has to meet the following criteria:

  • Individual should possess ‘Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university’
  • Nationality should be Indian
  • Age should be between 20 to 30 years as on 1st july 2017
  • Relaxation of the age can be in the following ways:

Other Backward classes (Non-creamy layer) 3 years
Person with disabilities 10 years

I.T. Officer (Scale-I)

  • Age: Min- 20 Years Max-35 Years
  • Degree in Computer Science/ Computer Applications/ Information Technology/ Electronics/ Electronics & Telecommunications/ Electronics & Communication/ Electronics & Instrumentation OR
  • Post Graduate Degree in Electronics/ Electronics & Tele Communication/
  • Electronics & Communication/ Electronics & Instrumentation/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Computer Applications from a recognised University/ Institution OR
  • Graduate from a recognized university having Passed DOEACC ‘B’ level

Agricultural Field Officer(Scale I)

  • Age : Min- 20 Years Max-35 Years
  • Degree in Agriculture or allied specialisations such as Horticulture/Animal Husbandry/ Veterinary Science/ Dairy Science/Agri. Engineering/ Fishery Science/ Pisciculture/ Agri Marketing & Cooperation/ Forestry etc. from recognized university.

Rajbhasha Adhikari(Scale I)

  • Age : Min- 20 Years Max-35 Years
  • A post Graduate Degree in Hindi with English as a subject at the degree level OR
  • a post graduate degree in Sanskrit with English and Hindi as subjects at the degree level.

Law Officer(Scale I)

  • Age : Min- 20 Years Max-35 Years
  • A Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB)

Technical Officer (Scale I)

  • Age : Min- 20 years Max- 35 years
  • Degree in Engineering in Civil/ Electrical/ Mechanical/ Production/ Metallurgy/ Electronics/ Electronics & Telecommunication/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Textile/ Chemical etc./ B.Pharm.

HR/Personnel Officer (Scale I)

  • Age : Min- 20 years Max- 35 years
  • Graduate from a recognized university and Post Graduate degree or diploma recognized by AICTE in Personnel Management / Industrial Relations/ HRD/Social Work / Labour Law OR Degree/Diploma in Business Administration/ Management with specialization in HRD from a recognized University.

Marketing Officer (Scale I)

  • Age : Min- 20 years Max- 35 years
  • MBA (Marketing) / 2 years PGDBA / PGDBM or any other equivalent degree or diploma with specialization in Marketing from a recognized University/Institution.

I.T. Officer(Scale-II)

  • Age : Min- 21 Years Max-40 Years
  • Degree in Computer Science/ Computer Applications/ Information Technology/ Electronics/ Electronics & Telecommunications/ Electronics & Communication/ Electronics & Instrumentation OR

Law Officer(Scale II)

  • A Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB) 3 years experience of practice at Bar or Judicial service and/or Law Officer in the Legal Dept. of a reputed Bank or the Central/State Government or of a Public Sector Undertaking with practice at Bar.

Chartered Accountants (Scale II)

  • Min- 21 Years Max-35 Years
  • Passed final examination for Chartered Accountants

Finance Executive (Scale II)

  • Age : Min- 25 Years Max-35 Years
  • MBA/PGDBM (Finance) from a recognized university / AICTE approved Institution. Minimum experience of 3 years in the area of Credit Appraisal of Industrial projects in Financial Institutions/Banks.

IBPS 2017 Exam Syllabus

Although the exam will be conducted online this year, the pattern and syllabus for the exam have remained unchanged over the last year. The test is largely an aptitude and reasoning test. It is divided into 5 sections, viz.;

  1. Reasoning
  2. English language
  3. Numerical ability
  4. General awareness
  5. Computer knowledge

Each section has 50 questions, with each question of 1 mark. Thus, the IBPS Clerk Written exam is a 250 mark test.

Since it is a aptitude and reasoning test, the level of question asked is very basic in nature. While there is no defined syllabus for the test, here is an overview of the different topics you can expect in each section:

Reasoning

The reasoning section has verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions. Generally, the type of questions can be divided into analogy, sitting arrangement, decision making, blood relations, syllogism, series completion and statement reasoning.

English language

Your English language skills are tested in the exam under the following fields:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Error detection
  • Passage correction
  • Rearrangement
  • Idioms and phrases
  • Active and passive voice

Numerical ability

You won’t be asked graduate or post-graduate level questions in the numerical ability section. You are tested on your general aptitude. Thus, getting your basics right upto standard 10th should suffice while preparing for IBPS Clerk Written Exam.

In general, questions in this section can be divided into:

  • Arithmetic, which includes numbers, percentage, time and distance, logs, permutation and combination, probability etc.
  • Data interpretation, which involves interpreting charts and tables.

General awareness

This section tests your general awareness levels. The questions in this section are a blend of banking knowledge and current events. Usually, the weightage of banking related questions is higher than that of current event questions.

Computer knowledge

Questions in this section are related to basic hardware and software related questions. You don’t need to be a computer geek to crack this section.

Candidates who qualify in the preliminary exams, get admission card to appear in the Main Examination. Individual have to gain a maximum score in each test to get shortlisted for the Interview. Cutoffs would be decided on the number of vacancies available.

Note :

  1. 1/4th marks of the question would be deducted as penalty for the wrong answer.
  2. Calculator is not permitted in both Preliminary and main exams
  3. No penalty / deduction for not answering the question

Interview Process

  • This round would carry a total of 100 marks, where the interviewers would question on the individuals banking knowledge, General Knowledge and other aspects.

Application form for IBPS PO 2017 will be available in between July to August 2017 at its official portal i.e., http://www.ibps.in/. Before starting the online application procedure individuals are advised to keep following documents ready.

  • Copy of your scanned photograph and signature (should not be more than 20kb)
  • Signature in capital letters not accepted
