BITS Mersa Admission 2018 for NRI – Applications are invited from the Non Resident Indian (NRI), Person of Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Self Financing Foreign Student (SFFS) categories to full-time Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Integrated programmes offered by the Institute at Mesra (Main Campus). All programs will commence in July 2018.

Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate Program
Common Minimum Eligibility Criteria for all Undergraduate Programs (CMEC-UG)

  • Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1 October 1993 are eligible for admission. [Date of Birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board Class X (High School) certificate or equivalent only will be considered as authentic].
  • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in Class X or equivalent examination.
  • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in Class XII / QE (Equivalent Qualifying Examination). [Total Marks / Average / GPA in Class XII to be computed as per the respective Boards/ authority conducting the examination]
  • Candidates for some programmes must have studied and passed certain required subjects / combinations of subjects in Class XII as given below
    • B.E.:  Candidates must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics in Class XII /I.Sc. or equivalent examination, with minimum 60% marks (average of five subjects PCM + Eng + any one).
    • B.PHARM:  Candidates must have passed in Physics, Chemistry and in any one of Mathematics / Biology / Biotechnology in Class XII / I. Sc. or equivalent examination with minimum 60% marks.
    • BHMCT: Candidates must have passed in English in Class XII / Intermediate or equivalent examination with minimum 60% marks.

Postgraduate Program

For MBA, MCA, and M.Sc. programs

  • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in average of all subjects in Class X or equivalent examination.
  • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in Class XII / Equivalent Examination. [For MCA programme: The candidates must have passed in Mathematics / Computer Science / Information Practices as one of the subject in Class XII / Equivalent Examination].
  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislatures in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India / AIU. This degree must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling [Class XII or equivalent] (10+2+3 system).
  • Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. / B.Com. Honours must have minimum 60% marks in average in their Honours subject. Candidates of Bachelor of Computer Applications / other graduate courses must have minimum 60% marks in average in graduation.

For M.E. programs

  • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in average of all subjects in Class X or equivalent examination.
  • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in Class XII / Equivalent Examination.
  • Candidates must hold a B.E. / B.Tech. / AMIE or equivalent degree in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses. Candidates must have a first class or minimum 60% marks in average in graduation

For M.Tech programs

  • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in average of all subjects in Class X or equivalent examination.
  • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in Class XII / Equivalent Examination.
  • Candidates must hold either a
    • B.E. / B.Tech / AMIE/ equivalent degree in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses, with a first class or minimum 60% marks in average in graduation. In case the examining Board does not award a class, the percentage marks in graduation will be computed as average of marks obtained in all subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects), OR an
    • MCA or M.Sc. / M.A. degree in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses with first class or 60% marks in average, after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in 10+2+3 system from a recognized University, with minimum 60% marks in average in graduation [as per clauses (c) and (d) of Common Minimum Eligibility criteria for MBA, MCA, M.Sc. programmes

For M.Pharm program

      • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in average of all subjects in Class X or equivalent examination.
      • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in Class XII / Equivalent Examination.
      • Candidates must hold a B.Pharm degree from a PCI and AICTE recognized Institute. Candidates must have a first class or minimum 60% marks in average in graduation. In case the examining Board does not award a class, the percentage marks in graduation will be computed as average of marks obtained in all subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects).

For Master of Urban Planning (MUP) programme

      • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in average of all subjects in Class X or equivalent examination.
      • Candidates must have passed with minimum 60% marks in Class XII / Equivalent Examination.
      • Candidates must hold either a
  •  B.Arch / B.Planning or equivalent or B.E. in Civil Engineering with a first class or minimum 60% marks in average in graduation [as per clause c (i) in 5C] OR an
  • M.A. / M.Sc. degree in Geography, Economics, Sociology or Statistics with first class or 60% marks in average, after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in 10+2+3 system from a recognized University, with minimum 60% marks in average in graduation [as per clauses (c) and (d) of Common Minimum Eligibility criteria for MBA, MCA, M.Sc. programmes

5-Year Integrated M.Sc. programmes

Application Process

  • Interested and eligible candidates of the NRI / PIO / SFFS categories, who wish to apply for admission must complete and submit the application online only.
  • Pay the application fee of USD 250 (Non-refundable) –
    • By crossed Demand Draft in favour of “Birla Institute of Technology” OR
    • Through electronic transfer to Birla Institute of Technology, A/c No. 0063102000033901, with IDBI Bank Ltd., Main Road, Ranchi, Swift Code No. IBKLINBB063, (please include banking charges)
  • Send the filled-in application form along with required enclosures [see list of enclosures] through email as an attachment [including scan of Demand Draft / receipt of electronics transfer] at admissions@bitmesra.ac.in.
  • Candidates are also advise to attach at least two letters of recommendation (mandatory for applicants to Postgraduate Programmes and desirable for applicants to Undergraduate Programmes).
  • Please do not print a blank form and fill it by hand as this will not be accepted.

Selection Process

Upon receipt of filled-in application form along with required enclosures as an attachment by e-mail and if found eligible for admission, will be sent an offer letter for provisional admission by email as per dates mentioned in important dates, provided the seat of choices sought are not yet filled.

Under Graduate

Provisional selections to all undergraduate programmes will be made on the basis of percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Class X and Class XII or equivalent examination, as per details given below.

Postgraduate programmes:

Provisional selections to all postgraduate programmes will be made on the basis of the percentage of marks obtained by a candidate in Class X, Class XII and Graduation.
The Candidates should have minimum 60% marks throughout in Class X, Class XII and Graduation. Candidates appearing for graduation may also apply, subject to have minimum percentage of marks (above 60%) upto pre-final year of graduation.
