The rules for a competitive examination—Civil Services Examination—to be held by the Union Public Service Commission in 2018 for the purpose of filling vacancies in the following services/posts are, with the concurrence of the Ministries concerned and the Comptroller and Auditor General of India in respect of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service, published for general information :—

Educational Qualification : A candidate must hold a degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.

Note I:—Candidates who have appeared at an examination the passing of which would render them educationally qualified for the Commission’s examination but have not been informed of the result as also the candidates who intend to appear at such a qualifying examination will also be eligible for admission to the Preliminary Examination. All candidates who are declared qualified by the Commission for taking the Civil Services (Main) Examination will be required to produce proof of passing the requisite examination along with their application for the Main Examination failing which such candidates will not be admitted to the Main Examination.

Note II:—In exceptional cases the Union Public Service Commission may treat a candidate who does not have any of the foregoing qualification as a qualified candidate provided that he has passed examination conducted by other institution the standard of which in the opinion of the Commission justifies his admission to the examination.

Note III:—Candidates possessing professional and technical qualifications which are recognised by Government as equivalent to professional and technical degree would also be eligible for admission to the examination.

Note IV:—Candidates who have passed the final professional M.B.B.S or any other Medical Examination but have not completed their internship by the time of submission of their applications for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, will be provisionally admitted to the Examination provided they submit along with their application a copy of certificate from the concerned authority of the University/Institution that they had passed the requisite final professional medical examination. In such cases, the candidates will be required to produce at the time of their interview original degree or a certificate from the concerned competent authority of the University/Institution that they had completed all requirements (including completion of internship) for the award of the Degree.

Pay Scale : Rs.15600-39100

Selection Procedure : Scheme and subjects for the Preliminary and Main Examination.

A. Preliminary Examination : The Examination shall comprise of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each. Note : (i) Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions). (ii) The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%. (iii) The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English. (iv) Details of the syllabi are indicated in Part A of Section III. (v) Each paper will be of two hours duration. Blind candidates and the candidates withLocomotor Disability and Cerebral Palsy where dominant (writing) extremity is affected to the extent of slowing the performance of function (minimum of 40% impairment) will however, be allowed an extra time of twenty minutes per hour for each paper.

B. Main Examination : The written examination will consist of the following papers :— Qualifying Papers :

Paper-A (One of the Indian Language to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution).

Paper-B

English- 300 Marks

Paper-I

Essay -250 Marks

Paper-II

General Studies-I -250 Marks

All the candidates who qualify for Personality Test/Interview on the basis of Result of Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2018 will be required to submit their Order of Preferences for Zone(s)/State(s) Cadre (for IAS/IPS) through an Addendum to the Detailed Application Form. This addendum to DAF will be made available to the qualified candidates of written examination of Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2018.

All the candidates who qualify for Personality Test/Interview on the basis of Result of Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2018 will be required to submit their Order of Preferences for Participating Services through an Addendum to the Detailed Application Form. This addendum to DAF will be made available to the qualified candidates of written examination of Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2018

Fee : Candidates applying (Except Female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) for Civil Services (Main) Examination are required to pay a fee of Rs.200/- (Rupees Two Hundred only) either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using Net Banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/Master/RuPayCredit/Debit card.

The Main Examination will be held at following Centres: Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati),Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada.

Candidate Profile
