Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi (BIT) was established in 1955. Birla Institute of Technology Mesra,(popularly known as BIT, Mesra or BIT, Ranchi) is an autonomous engineering and technology-oriented Deemed University under Sec. 3 of the UGC act 1956. BIT Ranchi has been accorded the status of Deemed University approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and also ranks among the premier technical institutes of India. BIT Ranchi became the first technical University to establish overseas extension centers in the year 2000. It is one of the few Universities to be accorded a Super Computer at the core of its ultramodern IT infrastructure.
