The Goa Campus of BITS-Pilani was commissioned in August 2004. The Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. The primary motive of BITS is to "train young men and women able and eager to create and put into action such ideas, methods, techniques and information". The Institute is a dream come true of its founder late Mr G.D.Birla - an eminent industrialist, a participant in Indian freedom struggle and a close associate of the Father of Indian Nation late Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi). What started in early 1900s as a small school, blossomed into a set of colleges for higher education, ranging from the Humanities to Engineering until 1964 when all these colleges amalgamated to culminate into a unique Indian University of International standing. This university was christened as the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, known to many as BITS, Pilani.
Dr. R.N.Nauhria has joined Swami Devi Dyal Institute of Engineering & Technology as Director Principal from July 1, 2009. Dr. Nauhria is an eminent and well known personality of this region in the field Sof technical education. He has more than 40 years of rich professional experience in imparting and managing technical education, industrial consultancy and research in the fields of manufacturing engineering and management. Dr. Nauhria obtained his graduate and post graduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering from University of Roorkee (IIT Roorkee). He is a doctorate in the faculty of Engineering and Technology from Panjab University Chandigarh. Dr. Nauhria is a lead assessor for Quality Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems. He is a Senior Member of Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) USA and American Society of Quality (ASQ), Life Member, Indian Society of Technical Education and Member of many other Professional Societies.

Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh was established in 1953. It was shifted to its present campus in 1960. Mr. T.R. Pachamuthu, the Chancellor, SRM University, began his pursuit to provide top class education by establishing a school - 'Florence Nightingale Primary School' - in Chennai in the year 1968. In the same year, the Valliammai Society in honour of his mother Mrs. R. Valliammai, was founded. The 'SRM Engineering College' was established in Kattankulathur, near Chennai, and soon grew into numerous SRM centers of learning. The 'SRM College of Dentistry' was awarded the status of deemed university by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, India. In the same year, the engineering, medical and para-medical colleges of the group were brought under the ambit of SRM Deemed University.
The origin of Banasthali is unique in more ways than one. To realize a dream which he had cherished since his boyhood, Pandit Hiralal Shastri resigned his prestigious post of Secretary in the Home and Foreign Department in the erstwhile Jaipur State in 1927 and selected the remote village of Banthali (as Banasthali was originally called) as the centre of his life’s work. His plan was to organize a programme of rural reconstruction on the lines laid down by Gandhiji and also to train public workers through constructive service of the people. While so engaged in his work Shastriji also wanted to train his promising daughter Shantabai as a social worker dedicated to the cause of women’s upliftment. But destiny ordained otherwise. All of a sudden, after a brief illness of a day, Shantabai bade farewell to Banasthali on 25th April, 1935 at the tender age of only 12 years. The loss seemed irreparable at the moment, but soon the mood of despondency gave way to a new hope. If one Shantabai had departed there were others who could be trained likewise. This idea gave solace and opened the path of action.
